Miguel Wu is a pianist, singer, composer, and choir conductor. Born in Taiwan and raised in Paraguay, he earned his Master of Music from the University of Queensland and a Certificate of Music at The Juilliard School in New York. His studies included mentorship from Dr. Vicky Yang, Dr. Patrick Kreeger, Dr. Evan Fein, Ruka Shironishi, Dr. David McCall, and Dave Brown. Additionally, he undertook pedagogy and performance training at the Queensland Conservatorium and the Indiana University, USA (Summer Camp). He currently continues further study and training at The Juilliard School.
Miguel won numerous piano competitions and compositions in Australia and has been awarded the “Most Outstanding Music Performance” award. He has performed in numerous national and international venues across Australia, Paraguay, United States, and Europe.
In 2011 Miguel recorded and released a self produced album titled From The Sky, which has been broadcast on Australia’s ABC Classic FM radio station and Qantas Airline Q Streaming.
As a vocalist, Miguel won the Taiwanese Singing Competition held in Paraguay and has performed in major venues such as the Sydney SuperDome (now Qudos Bank Arena), Brisbane Entertainment Center, The Gabba, and Queensland Performing Arts in Brisbane.
Miguel actively engages with his local community through volunteering in music organizations. He previously served as a committee member for the Queensland Piano Competition and held roles as Secretary and Event Manager for Piano, Instrumental and Chamber Music at the Brisbane Eisteddfod. Currently, he is the Event Director for the Choirs event at the Australian National Eisteddfod.
Miguel teaches both in person and online, catering to students across Australia and beyond. Several of his students have performed at radio stations and appeared on TV shows, such as in Australian Idol and The Piano. He conducts vocal and band workshops for schools, churches, and community music groups, and adjudicates auditions and competitions for piano, instrumental, voice, and choir across Australia (including New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, and Western Australia) and the United States. He is also an examiner for the Australian Music Examination Board in piano.
